Canteen looks like tin but is made of stainless steel with food safe solder joints. The half moon shape is accurate for F&I or Rev War. This canteen is replicated from British examples excavated at Ft. Ligonier, which date from 1758-1766, it features a stopper, side loops and cotton shoulder cords. The style was used extensively from the Seven Years War through the War of 1812 and later. Approximately 9.5" high including the spout, 4-1/2" - 5" wide and holds about 1 quart. Weighs about 10.4 ounces.
Occasionally we find a pin hole leak. May require you to coat the inside with bees wax. Overall a good value for the money. We regret that canteens are not returnable.
This half moom shaped canteen is seen in a 1750 Hogarth print titled "The March to Finchly," seen in "Hogarth, The Complete Engravings" compliled by Joseph Burke and Colin Caldwell. Watch for our canteens in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."
