Our Tarred Canvas Haversacks with Buckle Flap (12"x12" with single leather shoulder strap) were used by both civilians and soldiers (more common for military use) throughout most of the 18th and early 19th century. They can be used with either colonial long hunters or early fur trade, French & Indian War, Revolutionary War or War of 1812 reenactments. Our "tarred" canvas haversack is not done by the conventional process. This tarring has three layers: a waterproof binder, pigment layer, and a lacquer. These layers are hydraulically pressed into canvas to give it the same look and function as old tarred haversacks. Our haversacks are made from sturdy canvas. All styles have a nice muslin inner lining. This lining is held in by corner buttons, allowing the liner to be easily removed if desired.
