Pewter copy of French 1715-1774 Peace Medal by J. du Vivier and F. Marteau. The medals were given as gifts to the Indians. Thomas Jefferson said, "These medals are considered as complimentary things, as marks of friendship to those who come to see us, or who do us good offices, conciliatory of their good will towards us, and not designed to produce a contrary disposition towards others."
Extant medal are shown: Side one bust of LUDOVICUS XV. REX CHRISTIANISSIMUS. The reverse shows allegorical figures with joined hands: HONOS ET VIRTUS.
Ours are a recast from a cast made from an original. About 1 11/8" diameter, not including loop and jump ring. We will add the jump ring for you, but silk ribbon is sold separately on our Ribbon page.
